The AJAAThe Alliance of Jamaican Alumni Associations Inc.(AJAA) is a Toronto based non-profit and resource organization comprised of 40-member alumni associations that are affiliated with educational institutions in Jamaica. Formerly organized in 1988 the AJAA was incorporated under the laws of the province of Ontario on January 21, 1993 and was granted charitable status by Revenue Canada on March 30, 1994.
The Alliance has identified youth leadership as a key area to support in their community initiatives. The Alliance has been a long-time supporter of Leadership programs for youth; including supporting leadership conferences that were previously conducted by York University and Humber College During the Alliance’s involvement with that program, 50 students were supported to participate in both Toronto and Caribbean versions of the event. These students have gone on to be leaders in their community and various fields of work. In 2013, the Alliance initiated a youth leadership conference program in Jamaica, the Emerging Global Leaders Jamaica (EGLJ). After the first cohort of the Jamaican program, which consisted of EGLP alumni as well as a few new participants, the EGLJ program blossomed to form a club system among the various participating high schools. |
